During a visit to Barnsley, Ciara Lomax was delighted to discover the blue plaque that marks the birthplace of John Hugh Burland. It is excellent that men like the schoolmaster Burland are being remembered. Another Barnsley Chartist we should not forget is Frank Mirfield, who all his life resolutely defended the interests of the local linen weavers ... hopefully Ciara's dad will remember to raise a pint to him on his next visit to his home town.
